Garmin Fishfinder 300C 3.5-Inch Waterproof Fishfinder and Dual-Beam Transducer Review

So far I have been very happy with this product.

I use this fish finder exclusively for kayak fishing in Gulf of Mexico, usually a couple hundred meters off the shore. As of writing this review, I have completely flipped the kayak and submerged this fish finder twice. In addition, I have completely drenched it on several occasions when moving through the surf while heading out. So far there are no issues. The rubber buttons seem adequately waterproofed, and the connector that hooks the power cable up is o-ring protected and has blocked water out very well.

This fish finder has a really bright display and shows up great even in direct sunlight. Although I was initially surprised by how small the screen was when I opened the package, I'm very happy with the quality now that I've used it on a couple of fishing trips. It clearly shows battery voltage, water temperature, and depth. The fish depth is clearly marked on the fish icons.

To use this fish finder on a kayak (Prowler Trident 15 Angler), I use a Replacement 12V-7AH. This fish finder will run easily all day on one charge with this battery. For charging I used the Schumacher SSC-1000A Automatic Speed Battery Charger set to normal/small battery settings. I used marine epoxy to mount the transducer to the bottom of a scupper hole. The fish finder by itself isn't tall enough to hold up the Trident's Sonar Shield, so I had to purchase a Anchor Lock W/ 241 Side Deck Mount and cut and file (sawzall and sander) it down so that it basically functions like a small extender for the fish finder mount. See user pictures for details.

Garmin 300C Fishfinder - Gone Fishin - Southeastern PA
After much time researching fishfinders priced below 300 dollars, I decided this one was for me. Amazon had the best price going and this qualified for free shipping making this an easy choice.
The installation and set up was easy and this unit has performed as expected. I fish mostly fresh water lakes in PA and the Garmin 300C has been a great addition to my boat. I highly recommend this fish finder for those looking for a color unit with temp and great color. Amazon is the place to purchase as the delivery was prompt and product was as advertised.
Enjoy your time on the water.

Very satisfied with portability and function - J. Offenbach - N VA
We resisted purchasing an electronic fishfinder, feeling that we needed to use our own senses and observations, but we've sure been saved by this Garmin 300C fishfinder on more than one occasion. The portability makes for easy setup and removal and setting this up is as easy as baiting a hook, but usually less messy. The screen is clear regardless of the weather and a little rain won't hurt it at all. We typically use this on Lake Anna in VA and don't regret the purchase at all!

Check Out Lowrance iFinder Go2 Waterproof Hiking GPS for $99.99

Lowrance iFinder Go2 Waterproof Hiking GPS Review

This unit seemed to have the best standard lake shoreline maps compared to Garmin and Magellan units I've tried. It is great on batteries and meets nearly all our needs. I'd love to be able to upload waypoints, but none of the inexpensive handhelds allow that. For us older folk, the screen could be a lot bigger, but I guess that's what glasses are for. For our marine construction business, it is perfect. Accuracy of all the units is about the same, and operation is unique to the manufacturer you are looking at. Once you learn the screens, you are good to go.

Lowrance iFinder Go2 Waterproof Hiking GPS Feature

• Includes 64MB of built-in memory packed full of mapping detail of the continental United States and Hawaii, including enhanced shoreline detail, coastal nav aids, and wrecks and obstructions
• Provides access to up to 100 retraceable plot trails-- with up to 10,000 points in any trail--and 42 graphic icons to mark special spots
• Offers an easy-to-read, 16-level grayscale, 200 x 140 resolution, two-inch diagonal display; amber LED backlit screen
• Dimensions: 5.15 x 2.12 x 1.24 inches (W x H x D); weighs 5.4 ounces
• 16-channel GPS and WAAS-enabled handheld helps get you where you're going quickly and easily

gps - Char - Myrtle Beach, SC
I bought this for geo-caching. I actually decided to go Lowrance because I have another that I use for the car and liked that one. I hate this iFinder GPS. It is so hard to use and the directions are completely confusing.
I did look into Tom Tom and theirs can used for driving directions as well as for entering the latitudes and longitudes...

good GPS for the money - ED B - Florida
This is my second Lowrance GPS. The iFINDER Go2 is a good gps for the money. It picked up the sattelites quickly including WAAS. Excellent battery life. Easy to use but the screen could be bigger. I would buy another GPS from Lowrance.

useful and economical - J. Baker -
Not bad for the price. This unit works as advertised and is a very useful tool. The main drawback for me is the size of the display but that would be the same for any hand held model. It would also be nice if the 12 volt power cord was included instead of having to be purchased separately.
